The James Chescappio Memorial Learning Centre (JCMLC) is housed near Jimmy Sandy Memorial School in Kawawachikamach. After being closed for over a year, it reopened in the end of summer 2020 with two new teachers. Adult education courses are offered there, and the teachers are available to help students who wish to complete their Adult General Education. Since JCMLS follows the Québec ministry of education programs, additional information about adult education can be found here.
In addition to providing adult education opportunities through the JCMLC in Kawawachikamach, the NEC also provides funding, under certain circumstances, for students to pursue their adult education courses at other educational institutions.
If you are interested in knowing more, please contact one of the counsellors in academic training, reachable under contact.
Vocational training opportunities are a priority for the NEC. Too often, students have had to travel out of the community to get training for needs that we have in the community. We are going to be focusing on this, and hope to start offering programs in the community based on what the community needs.
The NEC has supported numerous Naskapi beneficiaries in their pursuit of a post-secondary education. Our students have gone on to college and university in Québec, Ontario and as far away as British Columbia and South Dakota. Wherever your academic interests bring you, we are prepared to provide the best support possible.
Among other things, we can put prospective students in touch with past students so that you can discuss the experiences… and challenges… that students have had to deal with during their studies.
