Vocational training opportunities are a priority for the NEC. Too often, students have had to travel out of the community to get training for needs that we have in the community. We are going to be focusing on this, and hope to start offering programs in the community based on what the community needs.
Keep an eye out because we will soon team up with the Naskapi Nation to conduct a community-based needs assessment. That is basically a consultation process so that people of different ages and backgrounds get to share their ideas about what they see for Kawawachikamach in the short-term and in the long-term.
For now, we have many students who are getting certificates and other qualifications in different areas of vocational training including:
- Automobile mechanics
- Carpentry
- Electrician
- Health, Assistance and Nursing
- Personal Support Worker
- Refrigeration
